Kejriwal approached the apex court following the rejection of his petition by the Delhi High Court, challenging both his arrest and the trial court's decision to remand him to the custody of the federal anti-money laundering agency.

The Delhi High Court, led by Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, acknowledged the ED's argument, citing substantial evidence such as statements from witnesses and allegations of involvement in the formulation of the excise policy, which prompted Kejriwal's arrest.

In a bid to challenge the high court's ruling, the accused moved swiftly to the Supreme Court, seeking an expedited hearing on his case.

Chief Justice of India (CJI) D.Y. Chandrachud, however, directed Kejriwal's counsel, senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, to submit a formal request via email.

The high court emphasized that the ED had adhered to legal protocols, highlighting the significance of the evidence gathered, including statements from hawala dealers and AAP candidates involved in Goa elections.

Earlier, following his detention by the ED on March 21st, Kejriwal urgently petitioned the Supreme Court for a late-night hearing. However, he later withdrew his plea the following day, opting instead to challenge the remand proceedings before the trial court.
