Anurag Thakur Accuses TMC of Harboring 'Anti-National Forces'

Addressing reporters during his electoral tour in Siliguri, the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting raised concerns over the fact that individuals involved in terrorist activities, whether in the state or elsewhere in the nation, seem to find refuge in West Bengal. "Why is this happening?" he queried.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur asserted on Monday that the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in West Bengal is harboring "anti-national elements" and extending support to those perpetrating violence against women.

In response to Thakur's allegations, West Bengal minister and TMC spokesperson Shashi Panja dismissed his claims, accusing him of being delusional.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) recently apprehended two key suspects, including the mastermind, in the Rameshwaram Cafe blast case in Bengaluru from West Bengal. This development ignited a verbal skirmish between the BJP and the TMC.

While the BJP contends that West Bengal has become a "safe haven for terrorists" under the TMC's rule, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attributed the arrests to the prompt action taken by the state police.

"Under Mamata Banerjee's governance, corruption thrives, and instances of violence against women are disregarded," remarked Thakur.

Thakur also highlighted incidents of extortion, land encroachment, and sexual assault on women in Sandeshkhalii, located in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal.

Responding to Thakur's accusations, Panja suggested, "It seems you are either living in a fantasy world or attempting to create one. Alternatively, you might be unaware of the ground realities. It's important to acknowledge that the police have simply made arrests, and that's the truth. Thakur, your reputation for spreading hatred precedes you." She also raised concerns about Bengal's pending dues.

"Why has the release of funds been halted?" she questioned.

The TMC alleges that the central government has withheld West Bengal's dues amounting to Rs 1.6 lakh crore, which rightfully belong to the state as its share of taxes collected.
