Hailing from influential political lineages, Nakul Nath (Chhindwara), Vaibhav Gelot (Jalore), and Gaurav Gogoi (Jorhat) are respectively the sons of former Congress Chief Ministers Kamal Nath (Madhya Pradesh), Ashok Gehlot (Rajasthan), and the late Tarun Gogoi (Assam).

In the latest announcement from the Congress party, the spotlight falls on prominent leaders Gaurav Gogoi, Nakul Nath, and Vaibhav Gehlot, who have secured a place in the second list of Lok Sabha candidates revealed on Tuesday.

Hailing from influential political lineages, Nakul Nath (Chhindwara), Vaibhav Gelot (Jalore), and Gaurav Gogoi (Jorhat) are respectively the sons of former Congress Chief Ministers Kamal Nath (Madhya Pradesh), Ashok Gehlot (Rajasthan), and the late Tarun Gogoi (Assam).

Comprising a total of 43 candidates, the list includes nominees from Assam (12), Gujarat (7), Madhya Pradesh (10), Rajasthan (10), Uttarakhand (3), and Daman and Diu (1).

Among the noteworthy mentions is Rahul Kaswan, who recently made a switch from the BJP and has secured a nomination from Rajasthan’s Churu constituency.

Congress General Secretary for Organisation, K.C. Venugopal, highlighted that a significant 76.7 percent of the candidates in the second list belong to marginalized sections including SC/STs, OBCs, and Muslims. Additionally, he noted the age distribution, with 25 candidates below 50 years, 8 aged between 50 to 60, and 10 falling in the age bracket of 61 to 72.

Despite the comprehensive list, some heavyweight names from the party were conspicuously absent, leaving room for speculation.

Crucially, the second list still lacks candidates from pivotal states such as Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

The earlier list, unveiled the previous week, featured 39 candidates, notably including Rahul Gandhi from Kerala’s Wayanad, Shashi Tharoor from Thiruvananthapuram, and Venugopal himself from Alappuzha.
