Asserting the commitment of our party, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh emphasized the necessity of conducting a caste census during his visit to Maharashtra's Nandurbar district. Ramesh, who serves as the Congress general secretary and holds responsibility for communications, articulated the party's stance ahead of Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra's entry into Maharashtra for its final phase.
Ramesh underscored the significance of a comprehensive census encompassing social, economic, and caste dimensions. He likened it to an X-ray of our society, offering insights into the distribution of various castes within the population and their respective shares in the nation's wealth. Moreover, he stressed the relevance of such data in understanding the representation of different communities within democratic institutions.
Nandurbar district, with its historical connection to the Nehru-Gandhi family, provided the backdrop for Ramesh's remarks. Situated amidst the picturesque Satpura mountain ranges and along the banks of the Narmada river, the district shares borders with Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, culminating in Mumbai, will witness Rahul Gandhi addressing a public rally on March 17, marking the conclusion of this significant journey.
