External Affairs Minister Criticizes DMK's Stance on Katchatheevu Matter

During a media interaction, Jaishankar, accompanied by his cabinet colleague Rajeev Chandrasekhar, who is contesting for the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha constituency, asserted his views. The Katchatheevu dispute gained renewed attention following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent remarks, attributing the transfer of Katchatheevu Island to Sri Lanka in 1974 to the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

In a significant development, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar delivered a sharp critique of the ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu, specifically targeting their stance on the Katchatheevu issue. Expressing his concerns, Jaishankar highlighted what he viewed as double standards exhibited by the DMK concerning this matter. He emphasized that while the DMK vocally opposed the Katchatheevu decision within the parliamentary chambers, their support for it seemed tacit outside those walls.
