Delhi's Updated Electoral Roll Revealed with 1.47 Crore Voters; Marked Increase in Youngsters and Women

According to the Special Summary Revision - 2024, which concluded with the publication of the final electoral roll, the total number of electors (voters) reached 1,47,18,119.

The final electoral roll for Delhi, published on Monday ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, revealed a noteworthy 85% surge in the number of young voters in the 18 to 19 years age group. Additionally, there was a significant improvement in the registration of women voters.

According to the Special Summary Revision - 2024, which concluded with the publication of the final electoral roll, the total number of electors (voters) reached 1,47,18,119. This included 79,86,572 males, 67,30,371 females, and 1,176 third-gender electors, according to a statement from the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Delhi.

During the special summary revision exercise, with the qualifying date set at January 1, 2024, special efforts led to a 5-point improvement in the gender ratio of electors, rising from 838 to 843. CEO Delhi, P Krishnamurthy, highlighted this improvement as a significant step towards enhancing the electoral inclusion of women.

"The final electoral roll published today shows a significant increase in the number of young electors in Delhi, demonstrating the commitment of young electors towards the electoral process," stated Krishnamurthy. The special focus was on enrolling young voters in the 18 to 19 years age group, resulting in the addition of 67,930 young voters during the special summary revision. This accounted for 26.7% of the total addition of 2,54,470 names during the revision.

The enrollment of young electors in the 18 to 19 years age group increased by 9.69% compared to the final roll of the previous year and by an impressive 85.8% during the special summary revision-2024 alone.

Prospective voters who would turn 18 in 2024 (with qualifying dates on April 1, July 1, and October 1) applied for inclusion in the electoral roll, and their claims will be considered and decided in the respective quarter of the year.

A total of 9,335 prospective voters applied for registration during the special summary revision. Due to the purification of the electoral roll, the Electors to Population (EP) Ratio improved from 68.58 to 67.71, approaching the normative value of 67.

Compared to the Final Roll of the previous year, the EP Ratio improved by 1.58 points. Krishnamurthy emphasized the necessity of purifying the electoral roll to achieve a high-quality registry, citing the continuous process of adding and deleting names. Under house-to-house verification, a total of 3,97,004 entries were deleted, including 3,07,788 names of permanently shifted electors, 56,773 deceased electors, and 32,443 multiple entries.
