Congress Issues Call to 'Oust BJP': Pledges Jobs and Caste Census as Key Promises for Voters

The Congress party officially kicked off its campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections with a massive 'Hai Taiyaar Hum' rally in Maharashtra. The event, held at 'Bharat Jodo' Maidan, marked the 139th foundation day of the Congress party and saw prominent leaders, including Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, addressing the gathering.

Kharge also condemned the suspension of 146 Opposition MPs who raised pertinent questions in Parliament, accusing the government of making a 'mockery of democracy.' He criticized the huge debt burden of Rs 200 lakh-crore imposed by the Centre while reducing funds for development and welfare schemes.

Rahul Gandhi joined the discourse, questioning Prime Minister Narendra Modi's unfulfilled promise of providing two crore jobs annually. He highlighted the alarming unemployment rate, farmers' distress, and the concentration of wealth in the hands of a few corporate houses. Rahul Gandhi accused the Modi government of attempting to control institutions like the Election Commission, courts, and media.

Promising a caste-wise census once in power, Rahul Gandhi emphasized the need for equitable representation for Dalits, OBCs, and other backward classes in various sectors. He pledged to conduct a Caste Census, challenging the BJP government's reluctance.

Other Congress leaders, including Maharashtra Congress President Nana Patole and ex-Chief Ministers Ashok Chavan and Prithviraj Chavan, appealed to the public to support the national Opposition INDIA bloc in the 2024 elections. They highlighted the threat to democracy and the Constitution under the BJP's rule and accused the party of divisive tactics based on caste and religion.
