Avadh Ojha, AAP's candidate from the Patparganj constituency said he is happy with the second position in the keenly contested election.
Patparganj, once a stronghold of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Delhi, has shifted to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in this Assembly elections. BJP candidate Ravinder Singh Negi (Ravi Negi) secured a decisive victory over AAP's Avadh Ojha, winning by a margin of over 21,000 votes.
A first-time candidate and popular online educator-turned-politician, Ojha was optimistic even in defeat.
Speaking to IANS, he said, "Winning or losing is nothing. This was my first political innings and I have got the second position. I am very happy with this achievement."
Negi had polled 69,104 votes after nine rounds of the 14-round counting process, securing a comfortable lead over Ojha. Congress candidate Anil Kumar was still far behind in third place.
Speaking to his defeat, Ojha said that a change in leadership was probably a factor. "Perhaps the public felt it was time for a change after a long time. They might have wanted to give another party a chance. There is no question of any shortcomings on our part," he stated.
Despite the defeat, Ojha has vowed not to give up on his political career. "We are going to Patparganj now. First, I will meet my workers, then from tomorrow onwards, we will chalk our next strategy and then be back on road again," he stated.
Patparganj had been AAP's bastion, with its senior leader, Manish Sisodia, having won it for two successive terms before being arrested in the Delhi liquor policy case. The BJP, in this election, managed to shift the tide there, marking a significant political turn in the constituency.
