Congress Working Committee nominated Rahul Gandhi as Leader of Opposition in the 18th Lok Sabha
The Congress Working Committee (CWC) met on Saturday and took a very important decision for the Congress party by nominating Rahul Gandhi as the Leader of Opposition in the 18th Lok Sabha.
As per Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal, "The CWC has unanimously requested Rahul Gandhi to take the position of Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha. He is the best person to lead this campaign inside the Parliament," Venugopal further said that the decision from the former party chief concerning this appoint will be taken in no time.
He sounded hopeful about the good days of the Congress party in the wind, claiming a dramatic change in the attitude of people present in the CWC on Saturday compared to four months earlier.
"The people of India have spoken... the Congress has been given another chance, and it is now up to us to build on it," he said.
On the matter of leaving either the Wayanad or Raebareli seat, Venugopal said the matter would be decided by today, June 17. As the two aforementioned constituencies are very close to Rahul Gandhi, a quick denouement can be expected. Congress leaders in Kerala are continuously pressuring the party high command to convince Gandhi to retain the Wayanad seat. The buzz around says Priyanka Gandhi might fight from Wayanad if her brother decides to give up the seat.
“As for vacating either the Wayanad or Raebareli seat, the decision will be taken on or before June 17. It’s obvious that one can hold only one seat. Both the seats are very close to him. So the decision will be made soon,” Venugopal said.
Among others, the major leaders attending the CWC meeting include Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, party chief Mallikarjun Kharge, and senior members Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and D.K. Shivakumar.
