President Droupadi Murmu on Friday extended an invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to form the next government at the Centre.
"Exercising powers vested in her under Article 75 (1) of the Constitution of India, President Droupadi Murmu today appointed @narendramodi to the office of Prime Minister of India," Rashtrapati Bhavan said in a statement.
Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi is scheduled to be sworn in as Prime Minister for the third time, along with his Council of Ministers, at 7:15 p.m. on Sunday.
"The President will administer the oath of office and secrecy to the Prime Minister and other members of the Union Council of Ministers at 7.15 pm on June 09, 2024, at Rashtrapati Bhavan." the statement added.
Earlier in the day, a delegation of NDA allies, led by the BJP President J P Nadda, met with President Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan and presented a letter of support.
PM Narendra Modi was elected as the leader of the Lower House, BJP, and the NDA Parliamentary party, during the NDA meeting on Friday,
In the 543-member Lok Sabha, the BJP-led NDA holds a comfortable majority with 293 seats.
Significant constituents of the NDA alliance include the TDP with 16 MPs and the JD-U with 12 MPs.
Following his meeting with President Droupadi Murmu, PM Modi addressed the media, saying, "NDA allies have chosen me as their leader and have informed the President of their support. The President has appointed me as PM-designate. I informed the President that Sunday evening would be a suitable time for the oath ceremony."
He further said that the Modi 3.0 administration will operate with full vitality, aiming to complete tasks within set timeframes, and expressed gratitude to the voters for granting the BJP-led NDA a third term.
