The Congress on Tuesday said it will contest the Jharkhand assembly elections in alliance with the JMM, and a seat-sharing decision between the two parties is likely very soon.
"We will contest elections with our alliance partners in the state. A final decision on seat sharing will be done soon. We are confident of winning elections on the back of development works done by us," Jharkhand Pradesh Congress Committee president Keshav Mahto said.
The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) also claimed it has confidence that its alliance will be voted back into power.
However, it expressed concern about how Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma knew that the election dates would be announced on Tuesday.
We are ready to contest elections, though the announcement was made a bit early. However, we would like to know how Sarma was aware that elections would be announced on Tuesday. This is a grave threat to democracy, JMM spokesperson Manoj Pandey said.
BJP's co-in-charge of assembly elections in Jharkhand, Sarma, had said on Monday that the election dates would be announced on Tuesday.
In response to allegations by the JMM, BJP said that the JMM was running scared in view of the elections.
The BJP also said that the seat-sharing arrangement among NDA partners for assembly elections was "almost final" as well, with the first list of candidates to be announced within 48 hours after the polls are declared. Hemant Soren, chief minister of Jharkhand said that the alliance led by JMM will contest all 81 seats in Jharkhand.
The Election Commission is set to announce on Tuesday the schedule for assembly polls in Jharkhand and Maharashtra.
The existing assembly of Jharkhand will become a caretaker after January 5, 2025.
