After the Lok Sabha election in which the BJP failed to get a majority on its own and became increasingly dependent on allies, JD(U) called for a national executive meeting. What's there on the agenda - a resolution that special status be awarded to Bihar. Taking a jibe at leaders of his own party, which has two ministers in the Union, those in JD (U) claimed that it called for a "special package and other forms of assistance" as well, and felt that Bihar's hopes from the Modi regime were not yet entirely lost.

Whereas, opposition leaders in the state are of the view that Bihar has been cheated. RJD President Lalu Prasad, the arch political rival of Kumar, remarked that the JD(U) leader should resign. Incidentally, early this year, Kumar had quit the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan—Bihar's version of the INDIA bloc, which he initially helped constituting—to rejoin the BJP-led NDA.
