Thursday brought escalating trouble for Prajwal Revanna, who is embroiled in allegations of sexual misconduct with multiple women. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah penned his second letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the cancellation of Revanna's diplomatic passport. Simultaneously, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed it was processing the request to revoke his passport.
Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Deve Gowda, Prajwal's grandfather, issued a stern ultimatum, urging his grandson to return home and address the legal matter or face familial and personal consequences.
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi responded to Siddaramaiah's plea, emphasizing the procedural aspects of cancelling Prajwal's diplomatic passport and expressing the Centre's willingness to facilitate his return to India.
In response to the Karnataka government's request, the MEA disclosed that it had received a letter seeking the cancellation of Prajwal Revanna's diplomatic passport and was actively reviewing the matter.
"The MEA has received a letter from the Karnataka government for cancellation of diplomatic passport in respect of MP Prajwal Revanna. This is being processed," a source said.
Siddaramaiah, in his correspondence with PM Modi, criticized Prajwal's abrupt departure from the country on April 27th, using his diplomatic passport just after allegations surfaced against him and before the filing of the first FIR.
Deve Gowda, in his statement, underscored the gravity of the situation, warning Prajwal to surrender to the authorities or face familial disapproval and legal consequences.
Joshi, during a press briefing in Karnataka, reiterated the procedural protocols for repatriating Prajwal from abroad and criticized the state government for failing to take action against him before his departure.
Prajwal, the 33-year-old NDA candidate from Hassan, is accused of sexual misconduct and departed for Germany on April 27th, a day after the polls in Hassan. A warrant for his arrest was issued on May 18th by a Special Court for Elected Representatives following an application by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).
