Bhojpuri Star Pawan Singh Expelled from BJP Over Independent LS Poll Bid

Singh's decision to contest the election independently in the Karakat constituency of Bihar had put him in a competition with the NDA's official candidate, ex-Union Minister Upendra Kushwaha, who is fighting under the banner of Rashtriya Lok Morcha.

Popular Bhojpuri actor Pawan Singh faced expulsion from the BJP on Wednesday due to his decision to contest the Lok Sabha elections independently, a move that the party deemed as detrimental to its image and against the interests of the NDA coalition.

BJP's Bihar headquarters, led by state president Samrat Choudhary, came out with a statement announcing the expulsion of Singh from the party, alleging anti-party activities and indiscipline against him. Singh was accused of denting the image of the party by contesting against the NDA's authorized candidate.

Singh, after his expulsion from the party, posted cryptic messages on social media, hinting at his determination to continue the fight. He posted, "Abhimanyu is alone; so am I." He identified himself like Abhimanyu, who was fighting alone in the Mahabharata but with the support of the people.

However, Singh had not moved an inch from his decision and took to social media, saying, "committed to building a new Karakat."He listed his promises through what he called a "charter of commitments."

The expulsion from the party, which came just a week before the elections to Karakat, shows the significance of Singh contesting independently. Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rallies in Bihar further underline the political dynamics in the region.

The journey of Singh—from refusing a BJP ticket in Asansol to finally contesting from Karakat—speaks volumes about his aspirations and political maneuvering. There are speculations that he received the backing from a faction of the state BJP, thereby indicating the regional alliance complexities and electoral arithmetic.

People speculate over Singh's allegiance to which party, while others wonder if his contesting will at all impact the electoral dynamics at least in terms of community vote-banks and party interests.

At the outset, the uncertainty over Singh contesting was a mystery, but the fact that he has decided to stay in the race, notwithstanding his mother's decision to withdraw from the electoral fray, speaks volumes about his determined bid to pursue his political ambitions independently.
