In its latest announcement, the BJP has introduced two new faces, Harsh Malhotra and Yogendra Chandolia, as contenders for the East and Northwest Delhi constituencies respectively in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Harsh Malhotra, designated as the BJP nominee for the East Delhi parliamentary seat, brings prior experience as the former Mayor of the erstwhile East Delhi Municipal Corporation.
Likewise, Yogendra Chandolia, who has been nominated for the Northwest Delhi seat, boasts a background as the former Mayor of the erstwhile North Delhi Municipal Corporation.
This move by the BJP signifies a strategic shift in its election campaign, aiming to infuse fresh leadership into the representation of the national capital in the Parliament.
The BJP's dominance in the region was evident in the previous two Lok Sabha elections, where it secured victories across all seven seats in Delhi.
Earlier in March, the BJP unveiled the names of five candidates from Delhi, including Bansuri Swaraj, Praveen Khandelwal, Manoj Tiwari, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, and Kamaljeet Sehrawat.
Among these candidates, only Manoj Tiwari has been nominated again, suggesting a significant revamp in the party's candidate selection process.
Notably, Gautam Gambhir, the current MP for East Delhi, has opted out of the upcoming elections.
Several sitting Delhi MPs, including Parvesh Verma, Ramesh Bidhuri, Meenakshi Lekhi, Hans Raj Hans, and Harsh Vardhan, have also been omitted from the party's ticket allocation this time.
