Shehzad Poonawalla—the BJP's national spokesperson—came down heavily on the Mamata Banerjee-led government in West Bengal in the wake of another reported incident of violence and wondered if leaders of the INDIA bloc, including Rahul Gandhi, would visit the victim.
Poonawalla shared on his social media platform a video of a group thrashing an individual; he captioned it, "Another distressing video from Bengal reminiscent of the Taliban, following the Chopra incident."
Pointing to an associate of a TMC MLA leading the attack on the young woman in the video, Poonawalla said, "Such incidents are becoming alarmingly frequent. TMC now seems to stand for 'Talibani Mujhe Chahiye', with its leaders defending such actions. Indeed, they defended the Chopra and Sandeshkhali incidents, which led to the Supreme Court's reprimand of the Mamata government."
He said that the Bengal government was shielding those perpetrators behind such heinous crimes and also stated, "Aaj Mamata ka slogan 'Ma Mati Manush' se badal kar 'Balaatkaari bachao', 'Bhrashtachaari bachao', and 'Bomb Blast karne waalo ko bachao' ho gaya hai."
Poonawalla also lambasted the INDIA bloc for its silence on the issue, accusing them of hypocrisy. "It's disheartening that leaders who vocally advocate for women's rights and those who rush to Manipur remain silent. Will Rahul Gandhi and other leaders like Priyanka Vadra, Priyanka Chaturvedi, Aam Aadmi Party leaders speak up against the Mamata government? There has been utter silence on the Sandeshkhali, Swati Maliwal, Chopra Taliban incident and this recent episode."
The lies are such that even Trinamool leadership accepted the authenticity of the video, Poonawalla said, "Their defence is that it is an old video of few weeks/months ago. Is that latter a defence? It only shows that as usual TMC suppressed the video through threats and intimidation.".
