BJP blames Congress for the decrease in the number of Hindus

Amit Malviya, the chief of the BJP's IT cell, took to social media to share a news clip pointing to this demographic shift. He has underlined the statistic: "While the Hindu population declined, the Muslim population swelled by 43 percent during the same period."

In a recent claim, the BJP squarely blamed the Congress for the marked dip in the Hindu population, which declined 7.82 percent between 1950 and 2015.

"This decline in the Hindu population is a direct result of Congress's governance over decades. If not checked, it will continue to erode the Hindu presence in the country," Malviya said.

To support the assertions, the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM) has come out with a study, which discloses that between 1950 and 2015, the Hindu population decreased by 7.8 percent and the Muslim population showed a considerable growth of 43 percent.

In 1951, Hindus formed 84.68 percent of India's population, which had shrunk to 78.06 percent by 2015. During the same period, the Muslim population saw a growth from 9.84 percent to 14.09 percent, according to the census data.
