BJP's vote bank increased in Punjab, says state chief Sunil Jakhar

Despite admitting better performance, Jakhar asserted that much more needed to be done to rise to service Punjab better in the coming Assembly elections.

Underlining the significance of BJP's electoral gains about the Lok Sabha elections, state BJP President Sunil Jakhar said on Saturday that the vote share of the party has grown manifold from 6.5% to 18.5%, which was an important forward step towards enlarged role in Punjab.

Despite admitting better performance, Jakhar asserted that much more needed to be done to rise to service Punjab better in the coming Assembly elections.

"We have done better in Lok Sabha polls but better is not enough and we need to succeed more to serve the state in 2027,"  Jakhar addressed the media, further noting the elections held on Sunday had thrown up results in traditional strongholds like Gurdaspur, Amritsar, and Hoshiarpur that were not as expected.

"We have secured over 18.5 per cent of votes from our earlier performance of 6.5 per cent, which shows we have done better and people of all communities have voted for the BJP," Jakhar expressed, extending gratitude to party members, leaders, and voters for their backing.

"We have identified mandals (constituencies) in which we have performed exceedingly well and the party will honour our mandal and booth pradhans (heads) with Sammaan Patras," he said.

In the presence of Minister of State for Railways and Food Processing Ravneet Bittu, Jakhar acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Bittu's inclusion in the Union Cabinet, citing it as a testament to Modi's special attention to Punjab.

"Ravneet Bittu's induction reflects the PM's special focus on Punjab," Jakhar said.

Jakhar underlined that the increased trust from Punjab's electorate brings added responsibilities to the BJP, despite currently holding only two seats in the Assembly. He pledged to fulfill the role of a robust opposition to "uncover the unlawful collusion" between AAP and Congress.
