Wheat, rice procurement enough to 'comfortably meet food grains requirements'

About 21.27 lakh farmers have already benefitted from the ongoing wheat procurement operations with the MSP outflow of about Rs 47,000 crore. Major contribution in the procurement has come from three procuring states of Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana with procurement of 121.27 LMT, 70.98 LMT and 63.17 LMT respectively.

Several pumps in major Pakistan cities close down due to fuel shortage

The situation has reached a boiling point with people left high and dry as they scramble to find ways to keep their vehicles running, Samaa TV reported. Several pumps in major cities, including Lahore, Faisalabad and Gujranwala, have closed down, the report said. The fuel stations have limited filling to bikers to only Rs 200 and only Rs 5,000 to those having four-wheelers, Samaa TV reported.

High excise duties in Punjab hit fuel pump dealers

"Successive governments in Punjab -- the Akalis and the Congress had been regularly increasing VAT on petrol and diesel, resulting in vast difference in petroleum prices in Punjab as compared to neighboring states," Monty Sehgal, spokesman for the Petrol Pump Dealers Association, Punjab, told IANS.

PNB declares Rs 2,060 cr fraud at IL&FS Tamil Nadu Power

The Punjab National Bank (PNB) has reported a borrowal fraud of Rs 2060.14 crore in the NPA account of IL&FS Tamil Nadu Power at the Extra Large Corporate Branch in Delhi zonal office. "A fraud of Rs 2060.14 crore is being reported by the bank to the RBI in the accounts of the company. The bank has already made provisions amounting to Rs 824.06 crore, as per prescribed prudential norms," PNB said in a disclosure.

Paddy procurement from Oct 11 in interest of farmers, consumers: Govt

"Because of the untimely rains, maturity of paddy grains is delayed. As per Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) data, rainfall during September 2021 is 77 per cent and 139 per cent above normal in Punjab and Haryana respectively," a release from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution said.
