At a rally in Burdwan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi claimed the West Bengal government, under the leadership of Trinamool Congress, was trying to reduce Hindus to the status of second-class citizens in the state. He cited a case of women in Sandeshkhali being ruthlessly ill-beaten and accused the Trinamool Congress of protecting the prime accused, Sheikh Shahjahan.
While addressing a controversial statement by a Trinamool Congress legislator, Humayun Kabir, recently, PM Modi was indirectly holding the statement responsible for a worrying trend.
The Prime Minister also spoke about the recent Calcutta High Court verdict overturning 25,753 teaching and non-teaching posts in the state's state-run schools. He expressed sympathy for the plight of innocent candidates who secured their jobs through a legitimate process and said his party's West Bengal unit will support them through legal and social media support. However, he made it clear that those who secured their posts through corrupt methods would be punished.
Making his characteristic commitment of serving the people, the Prime Minister reiterated that his Prime Minister's office is committed to fulfilling the aspirations of the people. He asserted that the only heir to his work was the people of India.
