Bengal Minister Sparks Controversy by Describing Mamata as the 'Incarnation' of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu

Opposition leaders, including BJP's Sajal Ghosh and CPI(M) central committee member Sujan Chakraborty, criticized Basu's remarks, accusing him of attempting to curry favor with the chief minister.

West Bengal Education Minister Bratya Basu has stirred controversy by describing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as the "incarnation of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu." The comments were made during a public program in East Burdwan district and were captured in a viral video. Basu likened Mamata Banerjee to Chaitanya Dev, emphasizing their shared belief in inclusiveness and opposition to divisive politics.

Opposition leaders, including BJP's Sajal Ghosh and CPI(M) central committee member Sujan Chakraborty, criticized Basu's remarks, accusing him of attempting to curry favor with the chief minister. Ghosh called the comments unfortunate, especially coming from an educated individual and accomplished thespian like Basu. Chakraborty suggested that such statements demonstrate the lengths Trinamool Congress leaders go to in pleasing their supreme leader.

This is not the first instance of Trinamool Congress leaders associating Mamata Banerjee with revered figures. In the past, she has been likened to Maa Sarada and Rani Rashmoni by party members. Such comparisons have sparked objections from various quarters, including institutions like Belur Math, the headquarters of Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission.
