Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has issued a strong warning against those involved in a land-grabbing racket in the state, asserting that even members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will not be exempt if found guilty.
The Guwahati Commissioner of Police, Diganta Barah, recently revealed the existence of a well-organized land-grabbing racket operating in Guwahati. The perpetrators, involved in preparing forged documents with potential assistance from government and police officials, may also include certain advocates. Last week, three individuals were arrested in Guwahati for their alleged involvement in land grabbing, and a leader of the BJP OBC morcha, Pankaj Das, was implicated in a land grabbing case, resulting in his removal from the party post.
Chief Minister Sarma, addressing reporters, emphasized that individuals engaged in land mafias cannot be categorized by their political affiliations, stating, "The land-mafias cannot be classified as BJP or Congressmen. They are culprits. Nobody will be spared whether he belongs to the BJP or Congress party." He highlighted that, due to police intervention, some land mafias have already vacated unlawfully occupied lands, allowing rightful owners to reclaim their properties.
Sarma mentioned that District Commissioners and the police are actively working to expose and dismantle the entire nexus involved in land grabbing, emphasizing the government's commitment to curbing such illegal activities. The stern warning and proactive measures underscore the state's determination to address and eradicate the issue of land grabbing, regardless of the political affiliations of those involved.
