Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma made serious charges against the Congress on Tuesday, which, he said, is planning to jeopardize the safety of Bengali Hindus in the Barak Valley region of the state.
Congress raises issues deliberately to ferment trouble and instability in Assam, he said.
While addressing an election rally in the Cachar district, Sarma said that "The Congress is planning to imperil our Bengali Hindu brothers and sisters."
He underlined the concerns regarding the intentions of the party by stating that Congress is trying to create a "vitiated atmosphere" for political purposes even when Assam's situation is at peace.
Congress wants to put in danger Bengali Hindus as well and constantly works to remedy the difficulties at hand for BJPs said Sarma.
He claimed, " Congress is actually working against Bengalis ' interests."
In his remarks, Sarma said, "Congress wishes to restrain the state but does not take care of a win or loss in election.".
He said Congress will not be able to produce development regardless of how many votes it may get. He drew an analogy by saying that the opposition party is a "bull ox" that cannot produce milk.
"The Congress has no agenda this election," Sarma said at his first rally for the upcoming by-elections in the Dholai Assembly seat in the Cachar district.
"They do not care if they win or lose. All they want to do is to prevent progress. They also oppose the poor getting welfare from the government," attacked the Chief Minister the Congress party.
He said, "The Congress should stay at home and take a rest. They cannot become the power again for another 50 years."
Sarma said the BJP since it came to Assam has effectively controlled an inflamed state that claimed violence was incited, a legacy of the Congress party.
"The Congress was busy creating conflicts between Assamese and Bengali people. Such conflicts are no longer there. There is no difference between Brahmaputra Valley and Barak Valley now. The same development is happening everywhere in the state," he said.
Three districts comprise Barak Valley, namely Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi. It has two Lok Sabha MPs and 13 legislators in the state Assembly.
