In a bid to promote domestic celebrations and boost Uttarakhand's economy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday urged affluent industrialists to initiate a movement akin to 'Made in India' called 'Wed in India.' Speaking at the Uttarakhand Global Investors Summit, Modi encouraged wealthy families to host at least one destination wedding annually in the picturesque state, emphasizing that it could transform Uttarakhand into a sought-after wedding destination.
Citing the trend of affluent families opting for foreign destinations, Modi suggested that bringing weddings back to the "land of gods" would align with the spirit of 'Wed in India.' The Prime Minister envisioned that if this practice persisted for five years, with 5,000 weddings held annually, Uttarakhand could develop the necessary infrastructure to become an international wedding hotspot, showcasing India's collective power to shape positive change.
"There is an old saying that marriages are made in heaven. But then why are young couples going abroad for their wedding instead of coming to the land of gods (Devbhoomi). My prescription to the young and rich couples is that there should be a movement like 'Wed in India' on the lines of Made in India," PM Modi said.
"If rich business families start holding their family marriages in Uttarakhand once a year for the next five years and even if 5,000 marriages start taking place here in a year, a suitable infrastructure will grow and it will emerge as a major wedding destination," he added.
