Big shoutout to Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar after Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for a healthier nation and emphasized the need for a "campaign against rising obesity" at a recent event.
Akshay Kumar praised the Prime Minister, saying that he had inspired and energized the nation to adopt a healthy lifestyle, shedding unwanted weight, and shared a video of PM Modi’s speech.
The actor shared a portion of PM Modi's speech from the launch of the 38th National Games, noting how much he appreciated the way the Prime Minister addressed the impact of unhealthy practices on our daily lives.
“Health is the biggest wealth,” Akshay wrote on X, strongly advocating for everyone to follow PM Modi’s advice on regular exercise and a nutritious diet for a healthier life.
On January 28, PM Modi inaugurated the 38th National Games in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, where over 10,000 athletes will compete across various disciplines for the next 17 days. He called the National Games a "celebration of India's incredible sporting talent."
Addressing the gathering, PM Modi made a compelling case for adopting healthy lifestyles and raised concerns about the rise of obesity as a major health hazard in the country.
"Figures show that our country is witnessing a rise in obesity and related problems. Every section of society, including the youth, is being affected. This is concerning because obesity makes people more prone to lifestyle diseases like diabetes, heart conditions, and others," PM Modi stated.
He emphasized that the Fit India Movement and the National Games are excellent tools for encouraging an active, disciplined, and balanced life. He also urged citizens to focus on two key areas: exercise and diet control.
PM Modi encouraged everyone to dedicate some time each day to exercise—whether it's walking or going to the gym. He repeatedly stressed the importance of a well-balanced, nutritious diet, advising people to avoid unhealthy fats and oils.
"Old is gold, because our ancestors ate fresh, natural, and balanced meals," he pointed out.
He also suggested reducing cooking oil consumption by at least 10 percent each month, noting that small steps can lead to significant health improvements.
"A healthy mind and a healthy body lay the foundation for a healthy nation," he said, earning applause from the audience.
PM Modi further urged the sporting community, state administrations, and community leaders to help citizens make informed and healthier choices.
