During a parliamentary party meeting of the NDA on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was heard saying that the Opposition had made a mistake in calling for a debate in Parliament on Operation Sindoor, as per sources quoted by NDTV.
The operation, which was to neutralize terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK, was one of the contentious issues during last week's Monsoon session.
PM Modi was said to have informed alliance partners that the Opposition ultimately "shot themselves in the foot" and suffered a crushing defeat during the debate. Sources further explained that he characterized their actions as evidence of a propensity for "self-harm."
This was the second meeting of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance following the new government assumption of power in June last year.
The Prime Minister was awarded for his leadership in the aftermath of the April 22 terror attack at Pahalgam during the event. Operation Sindoor, initiated on May 7 as a counterattack, was the focus of the commendation.
In a resolution passed by the NDA MPs, they hailed PM Modi’s “unwavering resolve, visionary statesmanship and resolute command,” saying these qualities not only guided the nation with clarity and determination but also inspired a deep sense of unity and national pride.
The motion also used words of praise for the courage and commitment of the Indian troops who took part in Operation Sindoor. "Their bravery underscores their unswerving commitment to defending our country," the MPs said.
They defined Operation Sindoor as a "non-escalatory, targeted and pinpointed attack" on terror camps, underlining that it reflected India's unflinching commitment to combating terrorism. "It resonated with India's belief in peace, zero tolerance for terror and commitment to do whatever it takes to eradicate the terrorist infrastructure if situation so required," the statement mentioned.
The MPs also extended their sympathies to the 26 victims of the Pahalgam terror attack and described the incident as a cause of deep anguish and outrage for the whole country.
PM Modi was also praised for staging an extensive global reach after the operation. "Post Operation Sindoor, the Prime Minister saw 59 Members of Parliament cutting across parties going to 32 nations to advance India's perspective," the resolution added. They termed this effort one of India's largest diplomatic endeavors, one that sought to highlight the nation's experience with terrorism and to impress upon the world that an attack by terrorists anywhere globally is an outrage against human civilization.
