Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday visited Gujarat's Shri Somnath Jyotirlinga temple, where he prayed and conducted the sacred 'Rudra Abhishek' ritual.
Wearing a saffron-colored kurta, PM Modi prayed at the sacred Shiva temple, the first among the 12 jyotirlingas and located in Prabhas Patan.
His temple visit was part of his three-day Gujarat tour that started on Saturday.
After the spiritual contribution, the Prime Minister—who had earlier been Gujarat's Chief Minister for more than a decade—headed to Sasan, which serves as the base of the Gir Wildlife Sanctuary.
On Monday, PM Modi will go on a lion safari and chair a National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) meeting in Sasan to celebrate World Wildlife Day, officials said.
Earlier during the day, the Prime Minister sent his greetings at the beginning of the holy month of Ramzan.
Going on to social networking site X, he penned, **"As blessed month of Ramzan arrives, let it bring harmony and peace to our society. This holy month embodies reflection, thanksgiving, and faithfulness and reminds us too of virtues like compassion, empathy, and service. Ramzan Mubarak!"**
PM Modi also paid tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel during his visit to Somnath by offering obeisance at his idol on the temple campus.
Earlier, a day ago on Saturday, PM Modi had a meeting with former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott, who is on a tour of India.
He also indicated Abbott's affection for Indian food, saying the previous Australian premier enjoyed millets while visiting Delhi's Dilli Haat.
In a photo he shared on X with Abbott, PM Modi wrote, "Delighted to meet my good friend and former Australian PM Tony Abbott. He has always been a friend of India's. We have all seen him relish millets during his ongoing visit."
