The Ross Street Gurudwara in Vancouver, Canada, was vandalized with graffiti on Saturday, which the Khalsa Diwan Society has blamed on a group of Sikh separatists who support Khalistan.
Sgt. Steve Addison, Vancouver Police Department spokesman, confirmed that the vandalism case was under investigation, in which the word "murdabad" was sprayed on the walls of the Gurudwara.
The Khalsa Diwan Society deplored the act as part of an escalating campaign by extremist forces that intend to instill fear and divide the Canadian Sikh community. In a statement, the society reiterated that such activities are contrary to the very fundamentals of Sikhism, which emphasizes inclusiveness, respect, and mutual support, values which are also held dear by Canadian society in general.
Such behavior belies the principles of inclusivity, respect, and mutual support that are central to Sikhism as well as to Canadian society," the statement said, urging Canadians to stand united against extremism.
No suspects have been named, but Sgt. Addison said more information would be released as the investigation continues.
