As an instant reaction to the criticism, the filmmakers have stated that no attempt was being made to belittle any religion. Their declaration stated:
To Whomsoever It May Concern, There has been a backlash against a particular scene in the movie. The scene has been cut from the movie with immediate effect. Our intent was not to offend any religious sentiments. We regret it immensely and have taken an instant decision of deleting the scene from the movie. We apologize sincerely to all those whose sentiments have been offended.

This clarification came on the heels of a case registered against actors Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda, Vineet Kumar Singh, and director Gopichand Malineni. The complaint was filed at Sadar Police Station in Jalandhar invoking Section 299 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against alleged offense to religious sentiments. Pholriwal village resident Vikalp Gold was mentioned as the complainant.

In accordance with the police complaint, the offense in question was where the scene involved the portrayal of a crucifixion of what is believed to be Lord Jesus Christ and was offensive to adherents of the Christian religion.

ADCP Headquarters official Sukhwinder Singh had earlier confirmed the lodging of the complaint by Pholriwal-based Golgotha Gold, who belongs to the Christian community. The complainant objected to certain scenes in the film, claiming that they were against religious principles. Following initial findings, an FIR was filed against five people involved in the project.

The controversial scene featured Randeep Hooda's character standing under a crucifix inside a church, above the sacred pulpit, during a moment of communal prayer—a setting that was met with strong criticism and accusations of religious insensitivity.

Jaate released on 10 April 2025 has Sunny Deol in the lead role.
