Three anonymous militants were killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district on Thursday, police officials said.
Following specific intelligence regarding militants' presence, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Nader Tral area of Awantipora in south Kashmir, said a police source.
The exchange deteriorated into a shootout when militants fired at the forces, which retaliated accordingly, the official said.
The three militants died in the firefight. Their groups and identities were not known, the official added.
The police confirmed that the operation is underway.
