Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday extended his congratulations to UK counterpart Rishi Sunak on his one-year anniversary in office and engaged in a discussion regarding the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
The two leaders expressed deep concerns about terrorism and the loss of civilian lives. The Ministry of External Affairs disclosed that, during their phone call, the leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing the bilateral Comprehensive Strategic partnership.
"The leaders reiterated their commitment to continue to strengthen bilateral Comprehensive Startegic partnership, including in the areas trade, investment, emerging technology, defence, security, health and others," the Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement.
"They welcomed the progress being made for an early conclusion of a mutually beneficial Free Trade Agreement,” the statement added.
Modi and Sunak further discussed the developments in the West Asia region, particularly the Israel-Hamas conflict. They shared their profound apprehension about terrorism, the deteriorating security situation, and the civilian casualties arising from the conflict. Both leaders emphasized the importance of regional peace, security, stability, and continued humanitarian aid. They concluded their conversation with warm greetings for the upcoming festive occasion of Deepavali, and a mutual commitment to staying in touch.
