Defence Minister Rajnath Singh strongly condemned recent drone attacks on two ships and assured stringent action against the culprits. He highlighted India's role as a Net Security Provider (NSP) in the Indian Ocean Region and emphasized that the country is committed to ensuring safe and secure sea routes for maritime commercial activities.
The Indian Navy has escalated surveillance and deployed modern warships, aircraft, and Coast Guard ships to counter piracy and drone threats in the seas. Singh attributed the attacks to growing jealousy and hatred amidst India's rising economic and strategic influence.
He emphasized that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, the Indian Navy's significance has increased, especially in safeguarding sea routes critical for international trade. The commissioning of INS Imphal symbolizes India's growing maritime prowess, reinforcing the principle that dominance over water translates to strength in the Indo-Pacific region.
Admiral Radhakrishnan Hari Kumar, the Navy Chief, hailed INS Imphal's capability to deter threats and sabotage against national unity. He underscored the ship's crew diversity and envisioned an inclusive workforce, integrating personnel from every corner of India into the Navy, promoting nationalism and upskilling them.
Highlighting INS Imphal's special significance for Manipur, the North-East, and India, Admiral Kumar emphasized the ship's capability, even test-firing the BrahMos Surface to Surface Missile before its commissioning, showcasing its strength.
This commissioning marks a significant achievement for the Indian Navy, with three warships commissioned in recent years and 'Surat' expected to join in 2024, reinforcing India's naval strength and commitment to safeguarding maritime interests.
