Defense Minister Rajnath Singh marked the occasion of Holi by joining Army jawans in Leh, where he commended their unwavering dedication in safeguarding the nation amidst challenging weather conditions.
Originally scheduled to visit Siachen, the world's highest battlefield, Singh's plans had to be altered due to adverse weather conditions. Accompanied by Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pande, the minister engaged in applying 'gulal' tilak on the soldiers' foreheads.
In his address to the troops post the colorful celebrations, Singh hailed Ladakh as the epitome of valor and courage, akin to the national, economic, and technological capitals of Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru respectively.
"In the face of harsh weather conditions that often drive people indoors, you stand resolute, defending the nation against its adversaries," Singh remarked, acknowledging the soldiers' unwavering resolve.
Expressing heartfelt gratitude, Singh emphasized the nation's perpetual indebtedness towards its soldiers for their selfless service, asserting, "Your readiness to confront the enemy, even at the cost of personal safety, ensures the peaceful celebration of festivals like Holi across the nation."
Singh further likened the soldiers to guardian deities, underscoring their pivotal role in safeguarding the nation's integrity. Reiterating the government's commitment to the welfare of the armed forces and their families, Singh affirmed, "It is our solemn duty to ensure your well-being, along with that of your families. The government remains steadfast in its support for the armed forces."
Reflecting on his tenure as defense minister, Singh reminisced about his inaugural visit to Siachen, expressing regret over the cancellation of his visit due to adverse weather conditions. Nonetheless, he conveyed his warm wishes to the soldiers stationed there, affirming that celebrating Holi with jawans remains one of his most cherished moments.
Emphasizing a tradition of paying homage to protectors during auspicious occasions, Singh proposed that festivities like Diwali and Holi should commence with honoring soldiers. "The first lamp of Diwali, the first splash of Holi—these should all be dedicated to our brave soldiers," he remarked, highlighting the significance of celebrating festivals with military personnel stationed across various terrains, from the peaks of Siachen to the depths of the Indian Ocean aboard submarines.
