Prime Minister Modi: Attacks on Central Investigating Agencies Now Routine in Bengal

The Prime Minister condemned the alleged attempts by the Trinamool Congress to misappropriate funds meant for the welfare of the poor. He vowed not to permit such actions and pledged to intensify anti-corruption efforts post-election. Modi stressed the importance of forfeiting deposits of Trinamool Congress candidates across the state to combat corruption effectively.

During a recent rally in Jalpaiguri, Prime Minister Narendra Modi voiced concerns over the recurrent assaults on Central investigating agencies in West Bengal. He asserted that the Trinamool Congress was orchestrating these attacks, purportedly to shield individuals under investigation for extortion. Modi emphasized that the deteriorating law and order situation in the state had escalated to the point where judicial intervention was frequently warranted, citing the recent incident in Sandeshkhali as an example.

The attack on a National Investigation Agency (NIA) team in Bhupatinagar, which occurred on Saturday, marked the second assault on a central investigative agency in West Bengal within three months. Previously, on January 5, Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel had been targeted by locals in Sandeshkhali, resulting in the arrest of Trinamool leader Sheikh Shahjahan.

In response to the latest incident, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee attributed blame to the NIA, alleging harassment of women in Bhupatinagar. The ongoing confrontations underscore the escalating tensions between political factions in the run-up to the elections.
