In a gesture of respect, Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself received the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani, when he arrived at the Air Force Station in Palam on Monday evening.
The two leaders met with a warm embrace, signifying the special relationship between both countries. “A special gesture for a special friend! PM Narendra Modi welcomed HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, at the airport, as he arrived in New Delhi on his second State visit to India. The visit will further strengthen the bonds of India-Qatar partnership,” the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) posted on X.
Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani arrived in India for a two-day State Visit to the country, his second since March 2015, as invited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Attending the Amir of Qatar is a high-powered delegation of ministers, senior government officials, and businessmen.
On Tuesday, he will receive a ceremonial reception at the Rashtrapati Bhawan forecourt prior to having talks with PM Modi at Hyderabad House, covering different aspects of bilateral ties.
Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani will also call on President Droupadi Murmu during his visit and President Murmu will host a banquet in his honor.
"India and Qatar enjoy a long-standing relationship based on friendship, trust, and mutual respect," one official statement emphasized.
"In the last few years, the relationship between the two countries has become stronger in all fields such as trade, investment, energy, technology, culture, and people-to-people exchanges," said the MEA in a statement issued before Amir's visit to India.
“The Indian community residing in Qatar forms the largest expatriate community of Qatar, and is appreciated for its positive contribution in the progress and development of Qatar. The visit of His Highness the Amir will provide further momentum to our growing multifaceted partnership,” it added.
