Powerful Earthquake Shakes Delhi-NCR; No Casualties Reported

According to The National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake struck at around 5:36 a.m. and it had a Richter scale value of 4.0. Five km below the surface, the centre of the earthquakes was located.

Strong earthquake tremors rocked Delhi-NCR region in the early hours of Monday, sending panick waves among the residents.

The earthquake was registered at 28.59° North latitude and 77.16° East longitude, affecting various regions such as Delhi, Noida, Indirapuram, and other areas of the National Capital Region (NCR).

Confirming the incident, the NCS posted about it on social media platform X, tweeting an official report: "EQ of M: 4.0, On: 17/02/2025 05:36:55 IST, Lat: 28.59 N, Long: 77.16 E, Depth: 5 Km, Location: New Delhi, Delhi."

Following the shocks, political figures were concerned about public safety.

Former Delhi Chief Minister Atishi took to X and wrote, "A powerful earthquake just struck Delhi. I hope God that everyone is safe."

Chiming in likewise, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal also called for safety and wrote, "I pray for the safety of all."

While the tremors lasted for a matter of seconds, they were powerful enough to scare people off, and several residents vacated their homes out of precaution.

There has not been a single report of casualty or property damage as of yet, in spite of the brief panic.

The authorities have requested residents stay alert and follow safety guidelines while seismic activities occur.
