Delhi High Court junks plea challenging blanket ban on firecrackers
Justice Yashwant Varma said the issue is already pending before the Supreme Court and observed that it is not appropriate for the High Court to take the matter. Two petitioners, engaged in storing and selling of green crackers, approached the High Court challenging the Delhi Pollution Control Committee's (DPCC) order to completely ban the manufacture, storage, sale, and bursting of all kinds of firecrackers till next year in the capital city.

The bursting of firecrackers on Diwali will attract jail term up to six months and a fine of Rs 200 in the city. Addressing a press meet, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said: "This time also, the storage, sale and use of firecrackers has been banned." The matter was also raised during the meeting with the Centre, he added.
