Himanta Biswa Sarma sworn-in as 15th Assam CM
Sarma was administered the oath of office by Governor Jagdish Mukhi at the famous Srimanta Sankardeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati. Besides the Chief minister, 13 newly-elected MLAs of the BJP and its allies, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United People Party Liberal (UPPL), were also sworn in.

On Sunday, India recorded 4.03 lakh cases for the fifth time after May 1. On Friday, India recorded the highest ever 4,14,188 cases. In the past 18 days, India's daily Covid tally has risen by over three lakh cases and over 3,000 casualties have been reported for the last 12 days. India's total tally of Covid-19 cases now stands at 2,26,62,575 with 37,45,237 active cases and a total of 2,46,116 deaths so far.

In the affidavit submitted in the Supreme Court, the Centre defended its Covid vaccination policy, which has been criticised for differential pricing, shortage of doses, and slow rollout.

Probe ordered into 23 Covid patients going missing from Delhi hospital
The direction came a day after 23 Covid patients were reported missing from North MCD-run Hindu Rao hospital between April 19 to May 6. "Delhi government has ordered an inquiry into reports regarding 23 Covid-19 patients going missing from Hindu Rao Hospital and has instructed the Health Department to submit the report by Monday," the Chief Minister's office said in a statement.

GST exemption may lead to price hike of vaccines: FM Nirmala Sitharaman
"If full exemption from GST is given, vaccine manufacturers would not be able to offset their input taxes and would pass them on to the end consumer/citizen by increasing the price," the finance minister said. She was of the view that a "nominal 5 percent GST is in the interest of the domestic manufacturer of vaccine and in the interest of the citizens".
