Delhi reports below 10K cases 1st time since April 10

On April 10, the city had reported 7,897 cases in a day. While the positivity rate - the proportion of samples tested that return positive for Covid -19 continued its sharp decline to 12 per cent, on Friday, the lowest in the single day since April 13. Though daily positive cases in Delhi have decreased in the last few days, there are still many critical patients in hospitals.
1st Sputnik dose given in Hyderabad, priced at Rs 948+GST

As part of a limited pilot, the soft launch of the vaccine has commenced and the first dose of the vaccine was administered in Hyderabad on Friday. Further consignments of imported doses are expected over the upcoming months. Subsequently, supply of the Sputnik V vaccine will commence from Indian manufacturing partners.

More bodies found floating in Varanasi, Chandauli

One body was found near Sujabad area of Varanasi and six in Dhanapur area of Chandauli district on Thursday. People in Sujabad area, saw bodies floating on a bend and alerted the Ramnagar police, who reached the spot and divers were called to the spot. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kashi zone, Amit Kumar also reached the spot and monitored the search operation. Six decayed bodies and a partially burnt one were brought out and cremated.
India records 3.43L Covid cases 4K deaths in 24 hrs

In the past 22 days India's daily Covid tally has plateaued over the three-lakh-mark and over 3,000 casualties for a fortnight. On Wednesday, India recorded 4,205 fresh Covid deaths, while on May 7, the country had recorded its highest ever cases of 4,14,188.
Delhi has adequate beds, oxygen now, fix uniform rate for vaccines: AAP to Centre

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said in a press conference that as the number of daily cases has reduced in the city, there are adequate beds for Covid patients in the national capital now. However, Jain also said that Delhi has no Covaxin stock left for the 18-44 age group, and blamed the Centre for the vaccine crisis, not only in Delhi, but across the nation.
Centre challenges SC interpretation of 102nd Constitutional Amendment

The Centre has challenged the top court's interpretation of 102nd Constitutional Amendment in the Maratha reservation judgment delivered on May 5. According to sources, the Centre's petition has contended that state governments cannot be stripped their powers to identify socially and educationally backward classes (SEBC). The top court had upheld the 102nd Constitutional Amendment while denuding the power of states in this regard.
Russia's Sputnik V Covid vaccine to be available in market from next week: Government

The announcement comes 12 days after the first consignment of 150,000 doses of the Sputnik V vaccine landed in Hyderabad from Russia. Sputnik V is developed by Russia's Gamaleya National Center. It will be the third vaccine to be cleared for use in India at a time when the country is in the grip of an intense second wave and demand for vaccines has shot up.
Provide dry ration, facilitate transportation for migrant workers in NCR: Supreme Court

Issuing the interim directions, an SC bench comprising Justices Ashok Bhushan and M.R. Shah said: "Dry ration to migrant workers in the National Capital Region under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat scheme or any other scheme be provided by the Union of India, NCT of Delhi, state of UP and state of Haryana utilising the public distribution system (PDS) prevalent in each state with effect from May 2021.
