Over 3.26L new Covid cases, 3,890 deaths in India in 24 hrs

In the past 23 days India's daily Covid tally has plateaued over the three-lakh-mark and over 3,000 casualties for 17 days. On Wednesday, India recorded 4,205 fresh Covid deaths, the highest ever, while on May 7, the country had recorded its highest ever cases of 4,14,188. India's total tally of Covid-19 cases now stands at 2,43,72,907 with 36,73,802 active cases and 2,66,207 deaths so far.

The overall Covid situation has improved in the national capital in the last few days with most parameters showing signs of improvement. Delhi had reported 10,489 new cases on Thursday, 13,287 on Wednesday, 12,481 on Tuesday, 12,651 on Monday, 13,336 on Sunday and 17,364 fresh cases on Saturday. At least 54,042 RT-PCR tests and 14,533 Rapid Antigen tests were conducted in the last 24 hours.

A single bench of Justice Subramonium Prasad said: "I am persuaded by the reasons given by the trial court which is a valid ground for me not to grant any interim protection now." The court has listed the matter for further hearing on May 18. The sessions court had noted that allegations against Kalra are serious and his custodial interrogation was needed to unearth the entire conspiracy.

Addressing a virtual press conference on Friday, BJP National Spokesperson, Dr Sambit Patra, said, "Due to AAP government's inability to build storage, 20 and 13 lives were lost at Jaipur Golden Hospital and Batra Hospital respectively. Both hospitals had tried to contact the government, but the AAP government did nothing. This is criminal liability."
Centre to supply 192L vaccine doses to states, Union Territories from May 16-31

During this fortnight, 191.99 lakh doses of Covishield and Covaxin will be supplied to the states and the UTs free of cost, the Union Health Ministry said, adding that this will include 162.5 lakh doses of Covishield and 29.49 lakh Covaxin shots. The announcement came when India's cumulative figures of vaccine doses administered till Thursday touched nearly 18 crore (17.93 crore).
