Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar on Sunday released a video in which he shared a short story attached with a message and requested for funding the Ram Mandir construction.

Akshay expressed his gratitude and pleasure in the commencement of construction of the Ram Mandir and said that he has contributed towards its construction. He then urged his viewers to contribute as per their convenience.

'It is a matter of great pleasure that the construction of our grand temple of Sri Rama has begun in Ayodhya… Now it is our turn to contribute. I have started, hope you will join together. Jai Siyaram', he said.

This month, the temple trust launched a countrywide donation drive with an estimate that it will cost around Rs1,100 crore to build the temple.

Volunteers of various organisations will seek ₹ 10, ₹ 100, or ₹ 1,000 - the three types of coupons available against contribution - from Hindu households towards the construction. The trust has decided against using any government fund, money from abroad, or corporate donations.

In November 2019, the Supreme Court gave its final verdict and ended the long-drawn dispute over the site of Ayodhya, saying it belonged to Lord Ram. The bench further ruled that another site will be provided in the same town for a new mosque.
