The operation was intended to discover evidence linking the Indian opposition to Hindenburg Research, whose 2023 report had severe financial consequences for the Adani Group, Sputnik India reported, quoting unidentified sources.

Israel's spy agency, Mossad, reportedly carried out a covert operation to break into the home servers of Sam Pitroda, the head of Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) and one of the most significant political strategists for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

The operation was intended to discover evidence linking the Indian opposition to Hindenburg Research, whose 2023 report had severe financial consequences for the Adani Group, Sputnik India reported, quoting unidentified sources.

Sources spoken to by Sputnik India pointed out that the Mossad operation exposed connections between Rahul Gandhi and the Hindenburg Research group, possibly with an aim to discrediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Gautam Adani too. The so-called hack apparently uncovered encrypted chatrooms and clandestine communication routes.

But it is to be noted that the Sputnik India report has still not been confirmed independently, and there has not been any official response either from the Israeli government or Mossad regarding these allegations. Similarly, Sam Pitroda, Rahul Gandhi, and the Congress party have also had no immediate response.

The Hindenburg Research report dated January 2023 had severe allegations made against the Adani Group, ranging from stock manipulation to accounting fraud. It had accused the conglomerate of manipulating share prices with dubious accounting entries and shell companies in tax havens, purportedly used to generate bogus turnover and manipulate share prices through "wash trading." It also raised issues regarding the Adani Group's debt profile and overall financial situation.

The Adani Group denied these claims outright, accusing the report of being false and misleading.
