Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is set to travel to New Delhi after receiving temporary relief from the court concerning the governor’s approval for prosecution in connection to alleged irregularities within the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA).
According to Congress insiders, CM Siddaramaiah is scheduled to reach New Delhi on Friday, August 23, accompanied by a group of trusted colleagues and loyal Cabinet ministers. Their objective is to present his case to the party's high command.
Supporters of Siddaramaiah intend to urge the high command to maintain its support for his role as Chief Minister, even if an FIR is filed against him.
This delegation is expected to meet with senior party leaders following CM Siddaramaiah’s briefing on the current state situation.
Key leaders, including Minister for Housing and Waqf Zameer Ahmad Khan, Minister for Excise Satish Jarkiholi, Minister for Social Welfare HC Mahadevappa, Minister for Medical Education Sharan Prakash Patil, Minister for Large and Medium Industries MB Patil, Minister for Forest Eshwar Khandre, and Minister for Animal Husbandry K Venkatesh, who are closely aligned with Siddaramaiah, plan to advocate for his continued leadership and underscore his importance to the party.
One of the ministers emphasized that if the high command does not stand by CM Siddaramaiah, the Opposition might attempt to destabilize the Congress government in Karnataka, with potential implications for the Telangana government as well, where the party is in power.
They argue that even in the face of an FIR and subsequent investigation, the high command’s support for Siddaramaiah should remain steadfast. Otherwise, the political landscape in the state could shift, endangering the Congress government’s stability.
Siddaramaiah’s supporters believe that such a scenario could also pose a risk to the party’s future prospects, and they are preparing to express these concerns to the high command.
Former MLA Yathindra Siddaramaiah, CM Siddaramaiah’s son, has also remarked that his father’s resignation would lead to instability within the Congress government in Karnataka.
When questioned about CM Siddaramaiah’s ability to complete his five-year term as Chief Minister under the current circumstances, Deputy Chief Minister and state party President DK Shivakumar only stated that the Congress would continue to govern the state for the next decade.
Amid this delicate situation, Siddaramaiah’s team is leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to persuade the high command, sources reported.
