Indian student killed in shelling in Kharkiv, confirms MEA

"With profound sorrow we confirm that an Indian student lost his life in shelling in Kharkiv this morning. The Ministry is in touch with his family.We convey our deepest condolences to the family,” MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted.  He also said that the Indian foreign secretary is in contact with the Ukrainian and Russian government officials to allow safe passage for Indian students. 

An Indian student in Kharkiv has died in shelling in Kharkiv, Ukraine on Tuesday morning. The student has been identified as 21-years-old Naveen Shekharappa from Karnataka.  This has been announced by the Ministry of External Affairs in a tweet.

He also said that the Indian foreign secretary is in contact with the Ukrainian and Russian government officials to allow safe passage for Indian students.

“Foreign Secretary is calling in Ambassadors of Russia and Ukraine to reiterate our demand for urgent safe passage for Indian nationals who are still in Kharkiv and cities in other conflict zones. Similar action is also being undertaken by our Ambassadors in Russia and Ukraine,” he further tweeted.

Naveen was studying Medicine in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
