India Records 743 Fresh COVID-19 Cases in 24 Hours, Active Cases Stand at 3,997

The cumulative tally of COVID-19 cases in India since the outbreak in January 2020 has now reached 4,50,12,484.

In the last 24 hours, India has reported 743 new COVID-19 cases, marking a decrease of 54 cases compared to the previous day. The current count of active cases stands at 3,997, showcasing a continued downward trend. On May 19, the country recorded 865 new cases, highlighting a decline in the spread of the virus.

The cumulative tally of COVID-19 cases in India since the outbreak in January 2020 has now reached 4,50,12,484. The death toll linked to COVID-19 has risen to 5,33,358, with seven new fatalities reported in the past day. Among these, three were reported in Kerala, two in Karnataka, and one each in Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh.

Moreover, the country has identified a total of 145 cases of the COVID-19 subvariant JN.1 as of December 28. These cases were detected in samples collected between November 21 and December 18, 2023. The JN.1 subvariant, derived from the Omicron subvariant BA.2.86 or Pirola, was first reported in Kerala.

India has exhibited a robust recovery trend, with over 4.4 crore individuals having recovered from the disease, representing a national recovery rate of 98.81%.

Regarding vaccination efforts, the country has administered a total of 220.67 crore doses of COVID-19 vaccines, showcasing the nation's ongoing commitment to immunization initiatives.
