Minimum temperatures are expected to range from 6-10 degrees Celsius across most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and West Uttar Pradesh, and between 11-12 degrees Celsius over most parts of Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and certain areas of north Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast indicating dense to very dense fog persisting over Northwest India and parts of Central India for the next three to four days.

The IMD noted that these temperatures are 2-3 degrees Celsius above normal in specific regions of Punjab, Delhi, West Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, West Bengal, Gujarat, and northeast India.

Predictions suggest dense to very dense fog conditions will persist during early and morning hours in several regions, including Punjab till Sunday, parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh till Friday, and isolated pockets in north Rajasthan and north Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday.

Moreover, isolated pockets in Odisha and Uttarakhand on Wednesday and Thursday respectively, and in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura during Wednesday-Sunday, are also expected to experience dense fog conditions.

The IMD further anticipates the impact of a fresh Western Disturbance on Northwest India from Saturday onwards, likely resulting in light isolated rainfall in Northwest and adjoining Central India from December 30 to January 2. This disturbance, interacting with lower level easterly winds, might influence the weather during this period.

Despite these weather changes, the IMD does not project any significant alterations in minimum temperatures across northern parts of the country over the next five days.

On Tuesday morning, heavy fog significantly impacted visibility in various regions: Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Patiala in Punjab, Ambala, Hissar, Karnal, and Bhiwani in Haryana, Palam in Delhi, Jhansi and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, Satna, Tikamgarh, Rewa, Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh, and Rourkela in Odisha, among others, experienced drastically reduced visibility ranging from 25 to 50 metres due to the dense fog conditions.
