Dense Fog Causes Delays and Diversions: 30 Flights Affected at Delhi Airport

Eight flights were diverted to Jaipur, including three from Air India, two from Akasa, and one from Big Blue, according to airport sources.

Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport faced significant operational disruptions due to a thick blanket of fog enveloping the national capital. The dense fog led to reduced visibility, causing considerable delays for numerous flights. Airport officials reported that a total of 30 flights were impacted by the adverse weather conditions.

Eight flights were diverted to Jaipur, including three from Air India, two from Akasa, and one from Big Blue, according to airport sources. The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) issued an advisory for passengers, stating that while landings and take-offs continue at Delhi Airport, flights not compliant with CAT III standards may experience disruptions. Passengers were urged to contact the respective airlines for updated flight information.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicated that dense to very dense fog is expected to persist over Northwest India and parts of adjoining Central India for the next 3-4 days. The weather forecast agency highlighted the likelihood of dense to very dense fog conditions during the early and morning hours in certain pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh from Tuesday to Thursday. Additionally, these conditions are expected over Rajasthan and north Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday and Wednesday. The ongoing foggy conditions are a seasonal phenomenon during the winter months in the region.
