Emphasizing the Significance of Cultural Rebalancing: Insights from External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar

Highlighting the significance of "cultural rebalancing" in the contemporary global landscape, S Jaishankar, the External Affairs Minister, emphasized the need to showcase one's heritage, culture, and faith not only in domestic politics but also in international relations. His remarks came during an event at Purana Qila, where he announced NGO Sabhyata Foundation as the 'Smaarak Saarthi' for four historic monuments, including Purana Qila, Humayun's Tomb, Safdarjung Tomb, and Mehrauli Archaeological Park, under the government's 'Adopt a Heritage 2.0' initiative.

In addition, Jaishankar invoked the Hindu epic Mahabharata, highlighting its unparalleled complexity and relevance in understanding contemporary challenges and opportunities. He emphasized the need for India to assert its cultural identity and civilization on the global stage.

Following a cultural performance themed on the Mahabharata at Purana Qila, Jaishankar reiterated the importance of cultural rebalancing, stating that India must understand its roots to navigate its future successfully.

The 'Adopt a Heritage 2.0' project, initiated by the Ministry of Culture and the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), aims to collaborate with private and public sector entities to enhance amenities at centrally protected monuments. Sabhyata Foundation, as the 'Smaarak Saarthi,' will focus on improving visitor experiences at the designated heritage sites, aiming to increase footfalls and create memorable experiences while prioritizing hygiene, accessibility, safety, and knowledge dissemination.

With over 4,000 monuments requiring attention, ASI Director General Yadubir Singh Rawat emphasized the importance of private sector participation in preserving India's cultural heritage for future generations.

Apart from Purana Qila, other monuments included in the project are Qutub Minar, Uggar Sain's Baoli, Upper Fort Aguada, Elephanta Caves, Agra Fort, and more. Sabhyata Foundation's plans for Purana Qila involve a sound and light show, a museum displaying excavated artifacts, and themed dining experiences, while plans for the other three monuments will be unveiled later.

The foundation aims to organize year-round activities and collaborate closely with the Ministry of Culture and ASI to enrich the visitor experience with authentic research, expert guidance, and interactive displays, ensuring a deeper understanding and appreciation of India's rich cultural heritage.
