Dense Fog in Delhi Disrupts Over 50 Flights and Delays 18 Trains

Dense fog wreaked havoc on air and rail travel in the national capital, causing disruptions to more than 50 flights and 18 trains.

At the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport, flight operations were severely affected by low visibility, leading to the cancellation or rescheduling of numerous flights. Trains, too, experienced significant delays as the thick fog impaired visibility.

Indian Railways reported that up to 18 trains arriving in Delhi were delayed by as much as six hours. Meanwhile, operations for over 50 flights were disrupted, necessitating the rescheduling of flights scheduled between 12 a.m. and 8 a.m.

"Dense fog with visibility ranging from 50 to 100 meters was observed at IGI airport from 12:30 a.m. to 6:30 a.m.," revealed the India Meteorological Department in a post on X.

Fortunately, according to the IMD, visibility improved to 350 meters at Delhi airport around 8:30 a.m.

The IMD's predictions indicated that dense to very dense fog conditions were likely to persist over North India for the next four to five days. Travelers are advised to stay updated on the weather conditions and make necessary adjustments to their plans to navigate the ongoing fog-related challenges.
