On Saturday, Delhi experienced a minimum temperature of 8.9 degrees Celsius, which is two notches above the seasonal average. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted a "cold day" in Delhi, with the maximum temperature expected to hover around 16 degrees Celsius.
Shallow fog affected traffic and rail movement in the city. Palam recorded the lowest visibility at 1000 m at 5:30 a.m., while Safdarjung recorded 500 m at 8 a.m. with a minimum temperature of 9.6 and 8.9 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Indian Railways reported delays affecting 14 trains bound for Delhi, attributed to various factors, including fog-related issues in the northern region. The highest reported delay for trains arriving in Delhi is six hours.
The Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport reported over 30 flight disruptions and delays until 8 a.m. due to the prevailing weather conditions.
The air quality in several stations across the city continued to remain in the 'very poor' category. In the Anand Vihar area, PM 2.5 levels were recorded at 346, classified as 'very poor,' while PM 10 reached 258, categorized as 'poor,' according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
The Air Quality Index (AQI) categorizes the air quality as follows: 0-50 ('good'), 51-100 ('satisfactory'), 101-200 ('moderate'), 201-300 ('poor'), 301-400 ('very poor'), and 401-500 ('severe').
At the T3 terminal of the IGI Airport, PM 2.5 levels were at 307, falling into the 'very poor' category, while PM 10 was at 153, categorized as 'moderate.' The air quality situation indicates the persistence of challenging conditions in terms of pollution levels in the city.
